Collect information and get involved! There are many sources for information on what it takes to become a great Pharmaceutical Sales Professional. Finding and accessing that information is the first vital step in learning about these sales positions and what they entail. So where do you start the journey. Many will agree to Pharmaceutical Sales Representative Magazine. If you are serious, get a subscription and start to learn what those in the industry are talking about. You will learn the jargon, what the current issues are and how good reps are dealing with those issues. Contact local Pharmaceutical Rep Associations and reach out. These organizations have come together because these individuals want to help others, so try and get involved with them. Pharmaceutical Sales Representative organizations often have many contacts and know where the jobs are. Another great preparatory action would be to get active with the Certified Medical Representative Institute. Known to Pharma Reps as CMRI, this well established educational group can help you tremendously. These inexpensive/ internet based classes will teach you a lot and set you far apart in the interview process with perspective employers. Finally, do whatever necessary & speak with Pharma Reps working a territory. Ask what a typical day is like and listen. If you talk to a good rep, you'll learn about pre call planning, territory analysis, follow-up, sample management, call recording, expense reporting and the many other tasks needing constant attention/ management. So look at this as an adventure that begins with education, in which you are both teacher and student - so go out there and Get Started - begin the very rewarding Process!
